Depending upon the Nature of the Beast

I'm really excited to announce my second solo show, "Depending upon the Nature of the Beast (a show of fictional fiction)." It opens at Three Graces Gallery on Friday April 1st, 2011!
I absolutely love Three Graces. I've done their bi-annual Tiny Show 4 times now, and every time I go I am blown away by how beautiful the space is. The back windows look over the ocean and the front door faces downtown Portsmouth. I'm very grateful to be having a show in such a lovely place.
I'll keep you all posted on the progress of the show, new pieces, etc!
I hope you're all having a beautiful week.
Love,
Amanda

everything's coming up sunflowers

I love this song.
I have a deep-seated love for 60s girl groups in general. In 8th grade, my sister Courtney, myself, and our friends Abigail and Lindsey (also sisters, still two of our best friends :) would constantly listen to a CD of girl group songs from the 1960s, and we even recorded our own version of "Leader of the Pack" by the Shangri Las.
"Be my Baby" by The Ronettes is one of my favorites.
Thank you to everyone who came to Mass Market! I hope you all have a lovely Monday.
Love,
Amanda

almost Mass Market!

Tomorrow is Mass Market!
I made my 'Silver in E Minor' painting into a pack of holiday flat-cards. Each pack is $12 and comes with 8 (5x7") cards and 8 beautiful cream colored envelopes from Paper Source.
Once again, it's in the Mass Art gym at 621 Huntington Ave in Boston from 11 am to 5 pm.
Hope to see you there!!

p.s. - the nominal M.M. entry fee benefits the Fast Friends Greyhound Rescue, so wonderful!

the strand theater

Last night, my mom and I saw It's a Wonderful Life at The Strand, a beautiful theater in Clinton that was built in 1924.
Seeing this movie at the strand is one of our Christmas traditions.
I hope you're all having a beautiful week!
Tomorrow I'll post pictures of some of the things I'll have at Mass Market on Sunday. :)

7 impossible things before breakfast

I'm so excited and honored to be today's featured up-and-coming illustrator on Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast: a blog about books. Thank you, Jules!
"Silver in E minor"
acrylic on masonite, 8x10"
Here's the holiday painting I finished this week. I just couldn't stop staring at my silver tinself garland. I think I'll make some notecards of her for Mass Market next Sunday!
Lots of love,
Amanda

birthday in black and white

Last night I celebrated my birthday with my friends, and it was an all-around beautiful night.
Everyone dressed up and we went to a tapas restaurant that I love. It's very small and discreet from the outside, and when you open the doors you feel like you've stepped into a Casablanca-esque time and place.
The waiters gave me a candle in a large brass frog candlestick and showered us in bubbles from a plastic hippo. It's the only time I've ever wanted a wait staff to sing me happy birthday!
I love everyone who came, and I think this was one of my favorite birthdays. :)

alopecoid: (n) similar to or resembling a fox

Over the summer, I began this painting of a cut-out toy fox and have been working on it on and off ever since. I finally finished it! Prints of it can be found here in my shop. I think he'd be good for either framing or making. Photos of him fully "made" below. :)
I hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

comfort movies

I am painting and watching You've Got Mail, one of the most comforting movies of all time (to me, at least).
It's one of my mom's favorite movies and it reminds me of the holidays.
Also listening to this song, which I had forgotten about until tonight.
I hope you all had a beautiful Tuesday!
Love,
Amanda
