luck, be a lady tonight.

 "I am going to Paris!"
"I read a new book every night."
"I enjoy the poetry of the 1800s."
"I believe in the stars."
Four new 5x7" originals in the dollar drawings section of the shop!!
I didn't end up having the time to scan all of these in my last trip, so I am having a scanning day at the computer lab and listening to the Henry Mancini pandora station as suggested by my friend Julia. It's still lightly snowing.
I hope you're all having a lovely and relaxing Sunday.

the end of winter

 A blonde Lucille Ball.
Tonight it is snowing again. It's the kind of snow that's so light and silver that it looks like glitter. No matter what, though, lately I can't help but feel like it's spring. I'm not getting those late-winter blues this year, or maybe they just haven't hit me yet. It just feels like spring to me all the time lately.
How did February treat all of you? What are you up to?
I feel like I've been very caught up in my work lately. I'm waiting for the warm weather to pull me out of it a little bit.

dreaming of summer on coney island

This past summer, I spent the fourth of July weekend in New York City with my friend Nicole. On the 4th of July itself, we decided to venture off to Coney Island (and I never posted the pictures here).
I am scared of heights, so going on the ferris wheel was a small but great personal accomplishment! I feel prepared to take on the London ferris wheel now.
The tickets were expensive, so we only ended up going on two rides (the ferris wheel and the haunted house!), but they were worth every penny.
This prediction-giving Grandma gave me a wonderful fortune.
I love the history and romance of Coney Island. I wish I could travel back in time and spend just one night in the Elephant hotel.
I'd originally put off doing this post back in July because I wanted to include all this historical information, which I still do not have as I haven't done much reading on the subject yet. Still, the winter makes me miss days like the one I spent on Coney Island with my friend and so I thought it was a good night to post these pictures.
I hope to return this summer. :)

sycamore down

I love these collages by John Stezaker so much. The pairings of these old photographs and vintage postcards are so perfect. All artists view the world in a way that differs from the norm, but I'm always so fascinated to see how one artist's view differs from that of other artists. I feel like these collages are such an insight into how John sees things.

Some recent sketchbook ladies!
I like the ones in the middle - to me they are art deco meets 1960s.
Before I go, I want to thank Diane, creator of The Dew Drop Inn, for writing this incredibly lovely post about my work. She keeps an amazingly multi-faceted blog that I love to read.
I hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

the art of the personal space

Etsy posted a few photos from this Flavorwire article, and I had to share them here. I love seeing people's work spaces, probably for the same reason I love drawing personal spaces: there is something so warm, comfortable, and yet mysterious about a person's favorite place to just be...them.
(Above is Albert Einstein's space)
 Susan Sontag
Roald Dahl
Just this morning I was admiring this photo on The Freelancer's Fashionblog. I love seeing her makeup table, all the little things on it, and that beautiful grape/bird wallpaper that looks almost hand-drawn (in fact, I think it might be).
I feel like I've been all business lately, and not too chatty on my blog. I'm getting a little bored of it, so there should be more fun/interesting/personal posts coming soon. How've you all been?
New work soon + non-work related things. :)

Hello, everyone!
I'm having a print sale in my shop: buy one print or paperdoll, get the second free! Just tell me which print (of equal or lesser value) you'd like free in your 'message to seller' at checkout. The sale is good through February 23rd.
I hope you're all having a beautiful week! It's starting to get so nice and warm here. I hope it stays this way.

the best valentine

This was perhaps the best Valentine's Day I've ever had. I bought myself a ticket to:
I have never been to any of these places and I've been waiting my whole life to go. I'm so excited!
I also got this cupcake and got to see Casablanca at The Brattle (and got to wear my 1950s cowboy dress-up horse pin).
All in all, a lovely valentine's day. :)
I hope you all had a beautiful day as well!!
